Lives and Works in Brooklyn, NY
I am Todd Brooks, better known as Todd Pendu. I am the creator of Pendu, Inc. (which includes Pendu Magazine & Pendu Sound Recordings), as well as the Bi-annual NY Eye & Ear Festival, and Scorpio Cinema. I am a bricoleur, adhocist, collagist, guitarist, electronics manipulator, and junk jammer. My work as an artist is an endless exploration in eclecticism, syncretism, and contradiction and my art remains in a constant state of Flux and Transition. As musician, I play in chaos*CM*majik, Ghost Moth (with Daniel Carter), Abuse Report. I have published a book of collected poetic-texts entitled "Analekta: Semantic Texts" and am currently working on a non-fiction historical biography tentatively titled "Bouzingo Means Noise!" about a relatively obscure French literary and artist collective from the 19th century of that included some famous figures including Gerard de Nerval, T Gautier, Petrus Borel, and others.

About The Pendu Organization
Pendu, Inc. is a nonprofit arts and culture organization. Our mission is to increase public awareness of culturally-significant work from visual artists, performers, and writers that are often marginalized and overlooked. We create a dialogue with the public through our magazine, record label, and webstore as well as through creative productions, art shows, workshops, and music events in various spaces throughout NYC.
Pendu, Inc. was originally known as Transition Media and was founded in late 2000 in conjunction with a vision for opening an holistic arts space in Ft. Myers, FL. A website was launched on Tripod www.members.tripod.com/dsllsn but was changed July 2001 to www.transition17.com. The site moved once again to www.transition-media.com in July 2003. In August 2003, I moved to Brooklyn, NY. In March 2005, Transition Media was re-christened officially as Pendu, Inc. A new website was launched in November 2005 and it has continued to grow ever since. In February 2009, Pendu filed paperwork to apply for nonprofit 501 (c)(3) status.

Biography:
I was born February 19, 1974 on the Aquarius/Pisces cusp in the town of Fort Myers, FL. I am a self-taught artist as well as a writer and musician. I have no college background or formal training. I come from a line of folk artists and blugrass/country musicians. My biological father Steven Williams and my adopted father David Brooks, both were popular country musicians in the Fort Myers area. David Brooks went to Nashville for a time in 1975 to cut a record with his band Moonshine and worked with Waylon Jennings and David Allen Coe. My grandfather was George Smith, a well-known fiddle player who toured the Bluegrass festivals for most of his life. My great-grandfather Ernest Archer "Frog" Smith worked on the railroads in the early part of the 1900's and was a raconteur, folk historian, and folk artist whose work is now highly sought after. My Aunt Sue is locally known for her arts and craft fairs that she puts together selling all kinds of homemade works to locals.
Fort Myers, Florida is my hometown and the now infamous town where the notorious gang the Lords of Chaos came from, a place where violence, racism, and ignorance flourish. I grew up in two radically different environments. For the first years of my life I lived on a canal off the Caloosahatchee River. My family had a sailing boat and I had my own canoe and I spent a lot of time out on the warm waters. When I was eleven, my family moved to Buckingham, Fort Myers on six acres of land. I began the life of a farm kid raising horses, cows, pigs, and chickens. I graduated in 1992 from Riverdale High School, a notoriously bad school, famous for its race riots that had started in the early 70's and continued as I went there as well. Somehow in this mishmash of eclectic living, I wound up a punk, just in time for Punk to "Break" in 1991.
In 1993, after a month-long trip to Europe and Africa, I made an incredibly bad decision that led to spending 7 months living on the street as a squatter in Atlanta, Ga selling drugs, playing street music, panhandling, shooting heroin, smoking crack, and dosing heavy amounts of LSD. I also spent several weeks in late June and early July of 1993 living with the Rainbow Gathering in the Talladega National Forest in Alabama, not as a hippie, but as punk among my punk friends among the hippies in the trees (shitting in the woods and bathing in the river). I was given the name Satyr by one of the elders. Just as Atlanta, got too cold, one of the apartment buildings where myself and 12 others were squatting together was discovered by the police and we were tossed out. I was able to get back to Fort Myers and stayed with a friend for a short time until he moved away; after that I surfed couches without a real place to live until 1997.
1994 - 1998, I played in several DIY hardcore bands including Outbreak, Bent River Dryad, Vertigo of Eros, and The Christkill.
In 1995, I started FYBY (For Youth By Youth) with 3 other friends of mine in Fort Myers, FL. We rented and cleaned out a storage warehouse off the highway and began throwing events, parties, and music shows. After only being open for a couple of months, we were shut down by the cops like so many other "illegal" venues before and after us. We continued to have FYBY events for a short time after in other venues.
In 1996, I threw my first festival in Ft. Myers for 6 DIY HC bands from Tampa and Ft. Myers which included a bazaar for selling zines, t-shirts, records, etc. It was very much the prototype for NY Eye & Ear Fest that I began in 2008.
In June 1997, I founded the record label Disillusion Records and my friend Vincent Cole DiAngelo and I co-released a compilation of hardcore bands called "The 49th Parallel" that included 6 bands from Canada and 6 bands from the US including MK-Ultra, Acrid, Still Life, Swallowing Shit, and more...
During the years 1998 and 99, I put music down for a bit and focused more on painting and making video art, including several video shorts and an unfinished feature. In August 1998, I made my first pilgrimage to the New York art galleries and museums followed by another in April 1999.
From October 2000 - March 2002, I spent most of my time writing weird poetics and playing in a band called Kilborough. I made video art pieces that were played on TVs that accompanied our shows. This activity inspired the idea to open an holistic arts and cultural center for visual art, music, etc... it was then that I built an on online website for art, music, and writing along with a record label. It was called The Transition Media Analekta. I also began a solo project around the same time that I called Mialessot creating surrealist soundscapes and artnoise using whatever instruments and recording equipment I had at hand. I put out my first CDr on my label Transition Media in December 2000. The name Mialessot was given to me in a magical trance and contains letters from my birth name of Todd Leslie Williams.
In early 2001, I began to write and gather material about the notorious but little-known, proto-punk, avant-art troupe from Paris in the 1830's known as the Bouzingo. I am still currently working on the book.
In June of 2001, I published my first collection of majikal/conceptual poetry entitled "Analekta: Semantic Texts".
In March of 2002 I began a spontaneous-noise-rock trio called The Stonewood Anthonys (aka The Stones) with occasional Mialessot collaborator, Carson Craig, but it was short lived.
In August of 2003, I moved to Brooklyn.
In 2005, I retired the Transition Media name and started Pendu, Inc. continuing with the work I had begun with TM.
In April 2006, I founded Ghost Moth with Robbie McDonald and NYC freejazz legend, Daniel Carter.
In November 2006, I put out a NY-centric compilation LP called "Getting Rid of the Glue" feat. Excepter, Talibam, Big A little a, and more.
In December of 2006 I started a free-noise, no-electronics collective under the nom de guerre Feral Comb and completed the first recording with fellow noiser, Joel Calabrese.
In 2007, after 16 releases, I retired the Mialessot name and began a new project called Chaos Majik.
